Eleman - Peter Grant (1935 - 1995)  The Yardbirds isimini geride bırakıp, Thames nehrindeki Viktorya devrine ait kayıkhanesinden (boathouse) kalkıp arkadaşı Peter Grant (menejer) yeni grup kurmak için kolları sıvayan Jimmy Page grubu için vokalist olarak düşündüğü isimlerden Terry Reid, Peter Jay, B.J. Wilson gibi kişileri meşgüliyetlerinden dolayı ayarlayamaz. Yinede Terry Reid, o sıralarda Londra'da bulunan Robert Plant adlı genç vokalisti tavsiye eder. Bu arada John Paul Jones, Page'in planlarını duyup hemen Page'i arar ve grubun basçısı baştan belli olur. Page, Plant'i grubu Hobbstweedle ile konserlerini izleyince etkilenir. Plant Page'in teklifini kabul eder. Plant davula John Bonham önerir, fakat çok zor bir yap-boz üzerinde meşgül olan Bonham peşinde Joe Cocker ve Chris Farlowe'da vardır. John Bonham Page'in ve Plant'in iyi olduğunu bildiğinden ve de başarılı olmasalar bile eğleneceklerini düşünüp gruba katılır. Sorun burada bitmez, Bonham'ın evinde telefon yoktur, ve bu yüzden 40 tane telegraf atarak ancak grup çalışmalarının başladığını haberi ulaştırabildiler.. İlk başlarda Yardbirds'ren bir kaç şarkı çalan grup, Yeni Yardbirds olarak İskandinav turnesine çıkarlar, İngiltere'de konser solonlarını NewYardbirds olarak doldursalarda halen daha grubun ismini kararlaştırmamışlardır. The Who grubunun basçısı John Entwistle, arabada Keith Moon ile yolculuk ederken, kendi grubuna isim bulmak için konuşuyorlarmış, ve hemen orada ya demiş neden Led Zepplin olmasın hem ilk albümüzün kapağına da yere alevler içinde düşen Led Zepplin resmi koyarız der. Fakat bu sohbeti duyan şöförleri Richard Cole sonradan Page için çalışmaya başlayınca, Entwistle fikrinin Page'e verdiliğini iddia eder ama Keith'de fikrin esas babası olduğunu söyleyince de işler iyice kızışır. Page, albüm kapağı ayrı olarak düşündük ama ismi Keith Moon'dan aldığını ve bunun için çok müteşekkir olduğunu belirtir, belki de Keith'de Entwistle'dan duymuştur diyerek olayı yumuşatır. Yine fikir kimden çıkmışsa çıkmış esas ad önce Lead Zepplin'dir ve Peter Grant ismi birazcık kısaltarak Led Zepplin yapar... İlk albümlerini 36 saatlik bir sütudyo çalışmasıyla tamamlarlar. Grubun beşinci elemanı olarak kabul edilen Peter Grant'ın özenli uğraşılarıyla Atlantic şirketiyle sözleşirler. Yardbirds'in şirketi bunu duyunca Columbia kafayı yer... Muzik Piyasasında herhalde en iyi menejer-grup ilişkisinin öreneği olurlar. Yardbirds gölgesinde kurtulamayan grup, sonunda ABD'ye gitmeye karar vererek ve Grant'in özellikle seçtiği şehirler sayesinde Led Zeplin'inin adı yükselir.
